The big name companies who manufacture inkjet printers have come across a problem to there selling strategy of printers in recent years. There strategy has been to sell the printer at cost and then make the profit back on the replacement printer ink cartridges. What they didn’t foresee was third party companies offering cheaper alternatives to their branded high priced ink cartridges. Because the law states that can’t stop the consumer from using compatible ink cartridges the printer manufacturers have to find new ways to try and stop you from using them. One method they try is to tell the consumer that using compatible ink cartridges will damage your printer, which is utter rubbish. A trick Epson have recently implemented is to program the printer to display a message every time it prints asking if you know you are using compatible Epson ink cartridges and do you wish to continue? New Epson printers have this programmed into them for example the Epson Stylus SX405 displays this message when you are using compatible Epson SX405 ink. The reason they do this is because even though they have the technology to do so they are not allow to stop the printer from working if its detects compatible ink cartridges. Instead they try to make using compatible inks as inconvenient as possible.
