May to July is the much awaited months for a big reason, South west monsoon, Monsoons are very important for countries like
India which has agriculture as backbone. SW monsoon for 2009 came early and hit kerala cost but not very hard, and the result is drought.
India needs rain to pour. Is it the case all the time? Certainly not, Chennai is one of the heart throb city in India. It witnessed a big down pour by September 2008. Nearly all the subways and tunnels were filled with water. Those tunnels are at least 15 feet deeper. Rivers, reservoirs, lakes over flowed. People came out of their houses and questioning the authorities for improper sanitation & drainage facilities. This was the case six months before.
And now, Chennai recorded the most dwelled areas in Tamil Nadu (constructing bore wells). Bore wells and its sound seem to be very common if you are a chennai suburb resident. So, what made the drastic change? What created this stance?
We had enough rain but still we face water problem. We can’t question the northwest or southwest monsoon winds. Questions are to be raised on our water management skills. This skill is very important or else millions of people will suffer a lot. We need to find answers for question rather than waiting for it to pour upon us or peeping at a distance to see our ground water.
